Sir Dennis Byron, President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), Ivor Archie, Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago and Dennis Morrison, President of the Court of Appeal of Jamaica are attending the Commonwealth Law Conference now underway in Melbourne, Australia. The conference will run from March 20-24, 2017. The four-day conference is being held under the theme ‘Thriving in a global world: Building on the Rule of Law’.
The CCJ President, in his role as Chairman of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute, was the patron of the Commonwealth Chief Justices’ Meeting held on March 20th. The meeting featured a presentation by Mr. Ernie Schmatt, Chief Executive, Judicial Commission of New South Wales. Mr. Schmatt presented on the functions of the Judicial Commission of New South Wales and discussed issues such as judicial education, investigation of disciplinary complaints against the judges, the use of electronic teaching tools, review of existing laws and judicial independence.
